Encounter Tournament 2016 , Rules and regulations

 

 

§ I. General


1. This tournament is organized by the collective Der Stab
2. This tournament is supported by the web service vienna.en.cx
3. The tournament will take place from 25.03.2016 until 17.12.2016
4. The winning team will be determined based on the results of all ranked games
5. A team´s performance in any ranked game is evaluated based on the amount of points it earns in that game.
6. Every team must keep its name unchanged throughout the duration of the competition. Teams that change their names will lose all previously earned points and will continue playing as a new entity. Teams are forbidden from using two or more names simultaneously. Offending teams will be disqualified.


§II. Points


1.Teams will receive 0 points for skipped games.

2. Points are announced via a special protocol that is published after every ranked game. Points will be awarded only to teams that complete over 75% of the levels in a given game. ATTENTION: A level is only considered completed if a team finds more than 50% of codes before the level is autocompleted. Levels deleted from the game will not be included in the percentage.

3. Teams that complete less than 75% of the levels in a given game will not be included into the protocol of that particular game, and therefore will receive no points for the game.

4.  The team with the greatest amount of points will be awarded the tournament championship.

5. In the event of two or more teams finishing the tournament with an equal amount of points the following scenario will be triggered.

a. Contenders will be examined for the number of times they finished as one of the first three teams. The contending team with the highest number receives the higher ranking.

b. In the event of two or more teams still being tied following this procedure. The 1st 2nd and 3rd placement in protocol rankings will be prioritized and higher ranking will be awarded to the team with the highest quality of finish places.

c. If the tie persists then the higher ranking will be awarded to the team with the highest rank in the latest played quest.


6. Final ranking will consist of teams that meet the following criteria.
1) Were included into the special protocol in 75% of all ranked games.*
2) Not found to be in violation of any rules of the championship or caught in the act of cheating.**
*Game status (whether or not a game is ranked) will be determined by the tournament organizers.
** Teams found guilty of violating the rules, cheating or sabotaging will be disqualified from the game and excluded from the championship.

7. Teams that do not meet at least one of the requirements will not be included into the final ranking.

8. Teams will be awarded points for inviting new teams to the competition. Points will be awarded only if the invited team earns a spot on the final rating.

9. Participating teams are able to author and host two Quests over the course of the tournament. The status of the Quest, whether or not the game meets the requirements to be a ranked Quest in the tournament, will be determined by the organizers. Quest creators are obligated to support their game through the vienna.en.cx domain. Tournament organizers will help facilitate the creative process however necessary. Only a captain of a competing team has the authority to submit a request to create a game and only the tournament organizers have the authority to approve such a request. Requests must be submitted a minimum of 4 weeks before the proposed game date. All competing teams will be informed of the newly scheduled Quest by the tournament organizers. All plans and materials must be presented to the organizers by the authors two weeks before the scheduled game date. ATTENTION! Members of the authoring team cannot participate in the game of their own making, even if they are not directly involved in the creative process. The author team will receive points based on on the quality quotient of the game. Quality quotient is derived from the ratings a game receives from its participants. Teams can rate a particular Quest they have participated in within a 24 hour period after the said Quest is completed. Authors are entitled to 50% of the proceeds and are obliged to submit the remaining 50% to the prize fund.

10. If a team wishes to create a game they will be assigned one member of the tournament organizing team as a curator. The curator will
assist with the game engine, assess the difficulty quotient and help by giving general advice.

11. Points are awarded according to the following scheme. Competing teams.

1st place - 20 points

2nd place - 18 points
3rd place - 17 points
4th place - 16 points

5th place - 15 points
6th place - 14 points
7th place - 13 points
8th place - 12 points

...


Author teams.
KO =KO1*1.5*(QQ/10) the result will be rounded up as organizers see fit. KO1 - number of points awarded for first place. QQ - Quality Quotient


Tournament organizers have a right to participate in games written by the contending teams, however they will not appear in the final rating and are not in the running for the championship.

12. For every new recruited team, the recruiting team will be awarded 5 points. The maximum number of points that can be earned by recruiting new teams is 25.


§III. Champions and Prizes


1. The prize is funded by 50% of all money paid by the participating teams when entering a particular quest. Game authors (not necessarily  tournament organizers) reserve the right to the other 50% to cover the costs of organizing a quest.

2. The team that ranks 1st in the final ranking will become the Tournament champion and will be entitled to 35% of the prize money.


3. Teams that earn second and third places in the final ranking will recieve lesser prizes.

4. The team that authors the best received game of the season (highest quality quotient) will receive 15% of the prize money. Organizers of the tournament are in contention for this prize.

 

§IV. Further Details


1. Before the start of every quest, Field and Command Center Captains of all competing teams are required to enter a group chat with the organizers. The platform (FB, Whatsapp, viber will be chosen by the games authors. All contact with the authors will be exclusively through this chat. Direct contact will only occur under extreme circumstances. A third party interfering with the course of the game and/or halting a particular teams progress does not meet this requirement. A request for a timeout due to such circumstances should be written in the group chat so it can be automatically timestamped.

2. This is not a commercial project. All money netted from the games go towards the prize fund and organizational costs.

3. Tournament organizers reserve the right to change and amend the current rules.

4. Tournament organizers are required to notify the participating teams of any rule changes.
